Welcome. I’m Liz Marshall (she/her), LCSW, LICSW.

My approach as a therapist is relational and warm and I deeply honor the intentional time set aside by each of my clients and consultees to engage in the courageous work of change.

As a trauma-informed therapist, I work to co-create a compassionate and non-judgmental space and value offering transparency, power, and choice in our work together.

When people think about working through past difficult experiences, it can seem like a daunting task.

When you've experienced trauma—whether it’s a significant event or more subtle but persistent stress—revisiting those memories can understandably feel overwhelming. The symptoms of trauma, such as flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance, and anxiety, can be incredibly debilitating.

One of the reasons I’m passionate about the trauma treatment modalities I use is that they don’t require you to tell me every intricate detail of the past. Research indicates that talking through traumatic events in great detail can sometimes overwhelm the nervous system even more. Instead, our focus will be on exploring the beliefs, emotional responses, and physical sensations your body has developed in response to these experiences. Together, we’ll work to uncover new insights, reduce the somatic and emotional intensity of memories, and discover adaptive responses, helping you move forward with greater ease.

My BACKGROUNd

Before opening my own practice, I worked at several Harvard and Rutgers teaching hospitals on violence response teams, where I provided crisis intervention, medical advocacy, and trauma therapy to survivors of intimate partner abuse, sexual abuse, human trafficking, and community violence. In these roles, I also had the opportunity to consult with and educate medical providers on best practices in trauma-informed care.

In addition to my therapy, consultation, & teaching work, I am an Ordained Priest in the Episcopal Church (an open & affirming tradition). I have a deep passion for supporting survivors of religious and spiritual trauma and for helping spiritual leaders and communities implement trauma-informed care on both individual and systemic levels.

I always welcome clients to bring religion and/or spirituality into the therapy room as these are important aspects of cultural identity. I will never push any religious agenda in our work together as I believe that would perpetuate the dynamics of power and control that so many of my clients come to therapy to liberate themselves from. I start from a place of evidence-based, trauma-informed practice following the ethical standards of the Social Work Profession.
